UPH Wins New York State Historic Preservation Award
Universal Preservation Hall, and the volunteers who have worked on this project, were award one of only five Historic Preservation Award given in New York State in 2007. The award, given by Commissioner Carol Ash, was presented to UPH Managing Director Matt Kopans, and Vice President in charge of Building and Facilities, by Wint Aldrich - Deputy Commissioner for Historic Preservation. In part, the award was to recognize "the outstanding commitment and cooperation of a dedicated group of local citizens, civic leaders, and professionals" to transform "a distinguished yet deteriorated historic church into a vibrant center for art, culture, and community events." February 2, 2008 - The Bartender's Ball(at the City Center) On February 2nd the Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Bartender's Ball at the Saratoga City Center. This event is one of the highlights of Winterfest weekend. The proceeds of this event will benefit Universal Preservation Hall. The event will feature a gormet buffet, bar, and a performance by Soul Session. Tickets are $50. To purchase tickets, contact Linda Page at the Chamber of Commerce (lpage@saratoga.org).
January 19, 2008 - A Wedding Affair
October 2007 - Events at UPHOn October 6th, the Hall hosted its first wedding since the restoration began.
On October 13th, the Saratoga Chamber Players held their first concert at Universal Preservation Hall at 8pm. The concert, entitled “Celebration of Spanish Themes and Dance was highlighted by a Boccherini Guitar Quintet accompanied by Spanish Classical Dancer Gabriella Granados. The Hall is particularly well tuned acoustically for classical music – come hear it at its best! www.saratogachamberplayers.org
On October 20th, the 2nd Annual Realtor’s Ball took place to benefit the Hall. The event will feature food by some of Saratoga’s premier chefs, music by Nik and the Nice Guys, as well as a silent auction. The event raised over $15,000 which will go directly towards the restoration of Universal Preservation Hall.
