Universal Preservation Hall : Designed by architect Elbridge Boyden, and built in 1871, Universal Preservation Hall is one of the earliest examples of High Victorian Gothic architecture anywhere in the country. Its 129-foot steeple, with a giant Meneely bell forged in Troy, N.Y., is one of Saratoga Springs’ highest spires. In 1999, in recognition of its significance, the building was designated an “Official Project of Save America’s Treasures” by The White House Millennium Council. Once condemned, the building was saved by an agreement between a group of caring Saratogians and the Universal Baptist Church. The 501(c)(3) Universal Preservation Hall was then established in 2003. Today, the Universal Preservation Hall continues its restoration and development while operating as a cultural center for the performing arts and community events in downtown Saratoga Springs.
