Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation Presents
Building the Foundation: A Retrospective with Julia Stokes
In honor of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation’s 40th Anniversary the Foundation will host “Building the Foundation: A Retrospective” on Thursday, April 20th at 7:00PM at Universal Preservation Hall. Join Julia Stokes, the founding Executive Director of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation, as she looks back on the organization’s early preservation efforts and successes.
Come enjoy many stories from the early years of the Foundation and learn about its evolution from a citizen based planning group called “Plan for Action” to an established non-profit celebrating its 40th anniversary. Discover the connection to the game of Monopoly, learn about the revitalization of Saratoga Springs’ downtown, and understand the importance of various city, state, and federal initiatives that were utilized to preserve the city. The presentation will also make note of the leadership of local residents such as Raymond Watkins, Newman “Pete” Wait, Beatrice Sweeney, Norman Fox, and many more.
Lecture costs $5 for SSPF members and $8 for non-members and will last approximately 90 minutes. For more information or to make a reservation, please call the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation (518) 587-5030, visit www.saratogapreservation.org or email Nicole Babie, Membership & Programs Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
