"The work is arrestingly beautiful, with both bits of classical, jazz, and rock and roll drifting through its surfaces, without ever seeming excessively scholastic." therumpus.net
Phyllis Chen is described as “a dazzling performer who wrings novel sounds from the humble toy piano,” - NY Times, and “a bold pianist with an excellent sense of color” - LA Times. Phyllis has performed in a large variety of contexts in the US and abroad.
This show will additionally feature nationally acclaimed author Rick Moody for a special program of music intertwined with collaborative readings and performance with the musicians.
Rick is an American novelist and short story writer best known for the 1994 novel The Ice Storm which brought widespread acclaim, became a bestseller, and was made into a feature film of the same title. Many of his works have been praised by fellow writers and critics alike, and in 1999 The New Yorker chose him as one of America's most talented young writers, listing him on their "20 Writers for the 21st Century" list.
